In 2005…

-The Girls Advisory Council held its first meeting in January.

-Jean Cornell spoke at The Alice Paul Equality Awards dinner on April 13th and received a proclamation placing her on the Congressional Record by Representative Rob Andrews.

-Gayle and Alexa Ray read letters between Alice Paul and her mother for a funders’ luncheon. 

-The group helped table at the New Jersey State History Fair, aiding children making suffrage bracelets and helping to hand out information.

-Harry Potter discussion group on Aug. 1st!

-The girls sponsored the 2005 Women’s Equality Day Celebration by introducing the performers, giving tours, and assisting guest authors.  Prior to the performance, they were brought onstage and commended by former NJ Secretary of State Regina Thomas.

-Our banner event this year was Celebrate New Jersey Women Day on Oct. 2nd.  The group planned and coordinated a field day event for 60 area girl scouts that included activities such as, photos picketing the White House as a suffragist, New Jersey Women bingo, tug o’ war, sack races, jewelry-making, tours of the house and farm, voting activity,an educational video featuring “Alice Paul” and “Nellie Bly,” and a live appearance by “Alice Paul.”  All the troops involved gave the event rave reviews!

- The group held an overnight on Dec. 16th where they started a project to knit scarves for a local women’s shelter, participating in a variety of teambuilding activities, and had a discussion about cliques.

In 2006…

-The group helped out at the Ellie’s Seeds of Hope fundraiser to fight multiple sclerosis on Feb. 4th.

-The girls went on a field trip to Douglass College for a campus tour and discussion of Iron-Jawed Angels.

-Nora and Lauren took a trip to The College of New Jersey on April 17th and sat in on a women’s and gender studies class.

-Amy and Jean also took a trip to The College of New Jersey on April 18th and got a chance to meet the student executive board of Women in Learning and Leadership.

-GAC members performed the play, The ERA That's Yet to Come for an audience of over 100 guests.

-The group had the opportunity to attend Boheme Opera’s performance of Susannah and to go backstage to meet the cast and orchestra members.

-The group had the opportunity to attend Boheme Opera’s performance of Turandot and to go backstage to meet the cast and orchestra members.

-GAC members visited Sewall-Belmont House & Museum, in Washington, D.C. to perform, The ERA That's Yet to Come, toured the city and visited the Smithsonian Institute's Museum of American History.

-GAC members enjoyed a Haunted Hayride with Alice Factor members in October.

-GAC members sung Christmas carols to the residents of the Greenleaf Retirement Community joining members of the Alice Factor and GRAPES.


In 2007...

-Jean Cornell and Amy Joaquim publish an article about Alice Paul and hunger strikes in the March/April 2007 issue of New Moon Magazine. 

-Jean and Sharde at NJ Dept of Education conference with Barbara Irvine in May.

In the fall of 2007, GAC members will serve as advisors for the Girls Share Their Voice Report.
