The Alice Factor has three priorities when determining our activities
- the Alice Paul Institute
-the younger girls of the Girls Advisory Council and GRAPES
-and to each other!

Here's a list of what we have done since our first meeting in 2005.

2005

The first meeting of the Alice Factor was held on August 26, 2005, following API's Women's Equality Day celebration.

E-sisters
- Each member of the Alice Factor is paired with a member of the Girls Advisory Council as an e-sister. The GAC girls are free to email their e-sister for advice or just to talk.

Night of Terror Vigil- The Alice Factor hosted the Night of Terror vigil at the graveside of Alice Paul at Westfield Friends. The night commemorated the terror suffragists endured on Nov 14 of 1917. In an effort to break their spirit, prison officials met incoming suffragist prisoners with excessive force, twisting their arms behind their backs, slapping them, throwing them into their cells and even chaining Lucy Burns to the cell with her hands above her head.

2006

Slide show training- Training to become spokespersons for API, members of the Alice Factor attended a slide show training program to learn the Alice Paul presentation, Alice Paul: New Jersey’s Heroine for Equality. Members can complete the training program to become speakers for API.

Financial Workshop- In May, the Factor hosted a young women’s financial workshop inviting speakers from PNC Bank to advise young women on the issues of debt management, retirement savings and identity theft.

Iron Jawed Angels discussion- During the month of March, Factor members visited campuses where the movie Iron Jawed Angels was played for students. Members were available to answer questions about the movie and hand out the Lifetime viewer’s guide they contributed to and talk about the Alice Paul Institute and the Alice Factor.

Lifetime guide- In February, the Alice Factor created a viewers guide for the airing of HBO's Iron Jawed Angels. They compiled a list of 50 Facts about the Alice Paul and ideas to help celebrate women’s history month on college campuses.

ERA Survey- In April, the Factor began a survey geared towards men and women aged 18-35 on their knowledge and opinion of the ERA.

Ocean City retreat- Factor members held a planning retreat in Ocean City in June 2006. Members discussed future events, fundraising and increasing membership.

Women's Equality Day- The results of the ERA survey were distributed in a publication at Women’s Equality Day at Paulsdale on August 28. A Factor representative served on a discussion panel on the past, present and future of the ERA.

Help with GOLD, Annual Appeal mailing, wine tasting- Factor members convened at Paulsdale in November to join the assembly line that marks the massive Annual Appeal mailing. Factors served wine and meals at February’s Winter Wine Feast. They were also team leaders during the overnight GOLD programs held each month at Paulsdale.

Christmas Caroling- Members of the Alice Factor joined the Girls Advisory Council and GRAPES to carol at the Greenleaf Nursing Home in Moorestown, NJ.

Upcoming Events:

Night of Terror Vigil- Nov 14 , 2007
On November 14, 1917, prison officials met incoming suffragist prisoners with excessive force, twisting their arms behind their backs, slapping them, throwing them into their cells and even chaining Lucy Burns to the cell with her hands above her head. The night became known as the Night of Terror. API members pay tribute to the bravery of the suffragist who went to prison with a candlelight vigil at Alice Paul's graveside.

Young Women's Financial Session-
Never Kissed a Frog. Never Had to.
Thursday, March 27, 2007- 6:30-8:00 pm
Join us for the an informative financial session for young women, Never Kissed a Frog. Never Had to., from Swarthmore Financial Services. Learn about financial planning, investment portfolios, and more. Light refreshments will be served.

In the works:

E-Sister Expansion
The Alice Factor is currently working to expand the E-Sister mentorship program by offering all young women, 18-35, who would like to have the opportunity to volunteer as a mentor with an E-Sister.
If you are interested in becoming an E-Sister, please email Dana Dabek-Milstein or call 856-231-1885 to register in the training program (membership in the Alice Factor is not required).

Professional Networking
Alice Factor members are working to create a database of professional women who are interested in becoming adult E-Sisters to members of the Alice Factor. This will be a great way for young women to receive advice from a woman already working in a career in their interest. Factor members are putting together an application form for career women to fill out to be matched to a Factor E-Sister.

ERA Presentation-Summer/Fall 2007
Alice Factor members are working hard to produce a 30 minute PowerPoint presentation on the Equal Right Amendment, incorporating the ERA surveys conducted by Factor members in the spring of 2006. Members will launch this presentation by fall 2007.

Scrapbooking Party
A favorite pastime of many Alice Factor members, friends and family will be invited to join us at a popular "friend-raiser", honoring women by creating cards for your favorite women you admire. TBA

Singles Voting Party-2007/2008

Future Ideas:

Trips- The Factor would like to arrange trips to the Sewell-Belmont house in Washington, D.C. and Seneca Falls, NY.

Future activities with the GAC girls- We would like to have events with the GAC girls ranging from an afternoon bowling, to crafts or overnights at Paulsdale, to trips to women’s history sites
