The Political Art of Nina Allender

In honor of the 90th anniversary of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote, API will host an exhibit at historic Paulsdale featuring the work of artist Nina Allender, whose women’s suffrage sketches helped Alice Paul in her campaign for the 19th Amendment. Created by the Sewall-Belmont House & Museum and sponsored by a grant from the New Jersey Council for Humanities, A Woman Speaking to Women will explore how Allender demonstrated the benefits of women's right to vote in her political artwork.

In Honor of Election Day!

To remind us all of the importance of Election Day, API will host a movie night at historic Paulsdale.  HBO's Iron-Jawed Angels (2004) tells the remarkable story of the aggressive women's suffrage campaign led by Alice Paul (Hillary Swank) and Lucy Burns (Frances O'Conner).  In their resourceful campaign for the vote, the two led suffragists to parade, petition, and picket the White House in 1917.  Enduring arrests, brutal beatings and harrowing forced-feedings in jail, the suffragists of the National Woman's Party carried on, determined to win their right to vote.

Light refreshments will be served.

Price: FREE, donations welcome.
