The Gibson Girl Friday Meets the Victorian Woman

Treat mom to tea and a great program at historic Paulsdale for Mother's Day.

Costume designer and historian Barbara Meyer Darlin will present The Gibson Girl Friday Meets the Victorian Woman, an on-stage transformation from society to the white-collar working girl of 1900.

In this program, Ms. Darlin demonstrates what it was like  for Victorian woman to go to work every day wearing corsets and layers of tight, restrictive clothing. Then she compares that life to a society lady’s leisurely lifestyle and glamorous but tortuous fashions. During her presentation, Ms. Darlin will change outfits, from office clerk to a wealthy lady, showing the audience two completely different fashion looks from the turn-of-the-century, complete with unmentionables.

Celebrate this year's leap year with members of the Alice Paul Institute's Legacy Society and learn about how you can support API beyond your lifetime.

Join us for a "nuts and bolts" session about planned giving conducted by Heather Gee, vice president for development services at the Philadelphia Foundation.

You will learn:

  • what planned giving is, why it is important, planned giving options and how you can get started

  • and you will hear from special members of the Alice Paul Legacy Society and their personal reasons to support Alice Paul's legacy and the Alice Paul Institute's mission to develop future "Alice Pauls"

A light lunch will be served and you will have the opportunity to meet with API staff and Board members, as well as member of the Alice Paul Legacy Society and staff from the Philadelphia Foundation
