Following the horrific violence in Atlanta last week that resulted in the loss of eight people—six of whom were Asian American women—the Alice Paul Institute stands with the AAPI community in expressing outrage over the increase in hateful rhetoric, discrimination, and violence directed towards Asians and Asian Americans. We mourn the loss of Daoyou Feng, Delaina Ashley Yaun González, Paul Andre Michels, Xiaojie Tan, Soon Chung Park, Hyun Jung Grant, Suncha Kim, and Yong Ae Yue.

As an institution that honors the legacy of Alice Paul, a lifelong activist and advocate for gender equality, we strongly condemn xenophobia, racism, misogyny, and all forms of gendered violence, and we stand in solidarity with the AAPI community and its allies. We encourage everyone to join with organizations like the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum and Asian Americans Advancing Justice to take action to combat anti-Asian violence.
