GLC Recap: December 2022

Our December GLC meeting was dedicated to networking skills in preparation for January’s mentor night. In January, our meeting will be a virtual mentoring event with women from different occupations and backgrounds. This always presents a great opportunity to learn about new careers and paths, gain advice from the mentors, and make connections. In advance, we learned fundamental networking skills, as well as preparing and refining our elevator pitches. An elevator pitch is supposed to be a thirty second introduction to oneself —  introducing yourself and your background, interests, and goals. Based on the model we discussed, we drafted our own speeches. Then, breaking into smaller groups, we all had the chance to share and give advice to each other. Feedback ranged from enunciating clearer to adding more information. We wrapped up the meeting with questions to ask the mentors. Each of the three meetings added to a collective list, creating a thorough idea board for next month’s discussions. We are looking forward to meeting with all the mentors in January!

November was our last meeting with Quincy, as she is starting her new fellowship. The members of GLC are all so excited for her and can’t wait to keep up with her new adventures!

Our fundraiser for the Period Pantry was also launched this month! GLC is selling Pura Vida bracelets — colored pink, red, and black —  to raise funds for our project. Each bracelet is $10, and all proceeds go to the Pantry. You can purchase your own via https://tinyurl.com/GLC-Bracelet-Form.com and venmo @Olivia-Errico.

Sabrina Miller is a senior at Haddonfield Memorial High School. She has been a member of GLC for the past 3 years and is excited for her final year in the program. Besides GLC, Sabrina runs on her school’s cross country and track teams throughout the year. She also devotes much of her free time to environmental initiatives with a local park and Haddonfield’s environmental club. Further, she is an avid member of the Leo Club, as well as partaking in National Honor Society and National Latin Honor Society. Other interests include aviation (she is working towards her private pilot’s license) and dendrology.
